Laurel Hill
Laurel Hill is one of the fabulous newer communities in Lorton near all kinds of cultural and recreational opportunities. These 731 homes were constructed by Pulte and Centex in the early to mid 2000s with both luxurious single family and townhomes available. Residents have access to a wide range of community amenities including an outdoor swimming pool, tennis courts and an elegant clubhouse. A local swim team, the Laurel Hill Tritons, make the community pool their home. The homeowners association maintains an informative website, with portions of it password protected for privacy. Living in Laurel Hill
The Laurel Hill Connection is a “social organization dedicated to fostering community spirit and making Laurel Hill a great place to live”. There are a variety of activities for people to get involved in such as Bunco, mountain biking, walking, playgroups or book clubs. A bi-monthly newsletter is sent out to all residents; it features community updates, information about local park activities, minutes from the Board of Directors meetings and a community calendar. The Laurel Hill Yahoo group e-mail list offers a quick and easy way of keeping up with neighborhood happenings.
Students in the Laurel Hill community attend the Laurel Hill Elementary and South County Secondary Schools. Due to its location near Interstate 95 and the Lorton VRE and the fact that it is just 17 miles south of Washington, D.C., Laurel Hill is becoming one of the premier subdivisions in southern Fairfax County. You can hop on the express lanes to get to the Military District of Washington, the Pentagon or Henderson Hall. Fort Belvoir and the campus of the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency are convenient as well. The VRE goes north into Washington, D.C. and down south to Fredericksburg. Stops include the Franconia-Springfield Metro, Alexandria, Crystal City and Quantico. When you are ready to hit a round of golf, you’ll want to be sure and check out the Laurel Hill Golf Club. This 71 par course opened in 2005 and was recognized as number 12 on Golfweek’s top public access courses in Virginia. In addition to the 18-hole course, there is also a 30 station practice range and a 9,400 square foot clubhouse with a pro shop, changing facilities plus meeting/dining areas. Plans are underway to further develop Laurel Hill Park; there is an agreement for an equestrian center and a major Sportsplex, which would include an indoor sports center and outdoor turf fields with lighting. The Lorton Workhouse Arts Center is the cultural gem of this section of the county. In addition to housing gallery and exhibition spaces, there are concert series, all sorts of classes and performing arts shows for all to enjoy. Future plans consist of a 35,000 square foot performing arts complex, a 300 seat studio theatre and a 40-unit artist-in-residence colony. Other nearby attractions include the Lorton Town Center, Mason Neck State Park and Pohick Bay Regional Park.
