Kenwood Oaks
Kenwood Oaks is a neighborhood of 90 single family homes with no through traffic in Springfield. These houses were built between 1979 and the early 1980s. The only entrance is located off Rolling Road, only one block from the intersection with Old Keene Mill Road. There are 4 different models; 2 colonial styles (Thomasville and Ralston) and 2 split level options (Quebec and Marlborough). All homes have attached 2 car garages; many also back to parkland. In fact, Kenwood Oaks is the only area in West Springfield where all homes have double garages and are also close to transportation. The Hidden Pond Nature Center and the adjacent Pohick Stream Valley Park are well-situated next to this community.
Living in Kenwood Oaks
There are acres of untouched woodlands, peaceful trails, streams and ponds plus the nature center, which includes exhibits, live displays and opportunities for school, youth or scout programs. Many transportation options can be found in this section of Springfield. For those who like to drive, the Fairfax County Parkway and I-95/395/495 are very close. Bus service, the Cardinal Plaza Slug Line and MetroRail (Franconia-Springfield is the closest Metro stop) are easy choices as well.
This subdivision is just across the street from the Old Keene Mill Center and the Cardinal Forest Plaza. Whole Foods Market, Austin Grill, Starbucks, and Walgreen’s are just a few of the offerings at Old Keene Mill Center. Cardinal Forest has a Giant and a 24 hour CVS with a MinuteClinic. The Springfield Golf and Country Club is only a few minutes walk away; it includes an 18-hole golf course, 6 lane competition swimming pool, 6 tennis courts and dining rooms. Several banks and gas stations, professional office parks and the West Springfield Governmental Center are also within close proximity. Children attend Rolling Valley Elementary, Washington Irving Middle and West Springfield High Schools.
Residents are encouraged to be active in the Kenwood Oaks Neighborhood Association (KONA). Dues are only $10 per year. KONA sponsors a website and publishes a bimonthly electronic newsletter. According to their website, there are 2 special annual events that are held in the fall; there is a neighborhood picnic and cleanup day.
