Upcoming Events in Alexandria

Dec 3rd in Del Ray: Join Santa for the lighting of the holiday tree at the Del Ray Farmer’s Market (Mount Vernon and East Oxford Avenues). There will be hot chocolate, cider and cookies available. Once the tree is lit, Santa will lead everyone down Mount Vernon Avenue to see the luminarias lining the street. Children can get their photos taken with Santa (inside). Many businesses will be staying open late this evening, so check them out too. Everyone is asked to bring items for Carpenter’s Homeless Shelter. Needed items include soup, canned meat, new twin size sheets, disposable diapers, razors and deodorant. This event takes place between 6 and 9 PM—dress warmly!

Dec 3-5 in Del Ray: The Del Ray Artisans will host a Fine Art & Craft Holiday Market. There will be lots of unique gifts available for purchase from 20 exhibitors. Examples include pottery/ceramics, paper crafts, glass works, jewelry and photography. West Landscapes LLC will be selling poinsettias and there will also be a bake sale to benefit the local community. Come early enough and you can savor food from Sapore D’Italia, a new Italian restaurant in Del Ray. The hours are Friday 6-9 PM, Saturday 10 AM-6 PM, Sunday 12-4 PM.

December 4th in Old Town: Come out and see the 40th Annual Campagna Center Scottish Walk Parade! There will be over 100 Scottish clans represented, all in traditional dress and playing bagpipes. Also on hand: Santa, antique cards and dog clubs. The parade begins at 11 AM and will culminate at 1 PM with a grand concert at Market Square (at King and Royal Streets) featuring all of the Walk participants. Other events include heather & greens sale and The Holiday Designer Tour of Homes.

December 11th in Alexandria: “Christmas in Camp” at Ford Ward Museum (4301 West Braddock Rd). This event shows how Christmas was observed during the Civil War. There will be living-history interpreters, refreshments, a Victorian Christmas tree, music, Santa and readings of “The Night Before Christmas”. Tours of the Fort will be available, weather permitting.
