Things to do this weekend! 10/3-10/5

On this first weekend of October, if playoff baseball and the Washington Nationals aren’t exactly your thing, we’ve got a great bunch of alternative activities to keep you and the family busy!

What: Fall Wine Festival & Sunset Tour
When: Friday, Oct. 3, 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.
Where: George Washington’s Mount Vernon, 3200 Mount Vernon Memorial Highway, Mount Vernon, VA
Description: Listen to live blues music and sample wine from 16 Virginia wineries while enjoying the view of the Potomac from George Washington’s Mount Vernon. You’ll also get an evening tour of the Washingtons’ home and see the basement where George Washington stored his wine.

What: Alonzo King LINES Ballet
When: Friday, Oct. 3, 8:00 p.m.
Where: Center for the Arts – George Mason University, Route 123 and Braddock Road, Fairfax, VA
Description: The ballet company performs “Rasa,” set to a score by classical Indian percussionist Zakir Hussain.

What: Art on the Avenue in Del Ray
When: Saturday, Oct. 4, 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.
Where: Mount Vernon between Bellefonte and Hume Streets, Alexandria, VA
Description: You’ll find everything here! More than 300 artists gather in Del Ray to present handmade items like vases and bowls, tiles, sculpture, art wear, fine art and more. Four stages offer music from local and regional groups.

What: Fall for Fairfax KidsFest
When: Saturday, Oct. 4, 10:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.
Where: Fairfax County Government Center, 12000 Government Center Parkway, Fairfax, VA
Description: More than 100 interactive activities include scarecrow making, pumpkin painting, pony rides and a petting zoo, lots of rides and exhibits. This festival continues Sunday, 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

What: Edgar Allan Poe’s Nevermore
When: Sunday, Oct. 5, 7:00 p.m.
Where: Workhouse Arts Center, 9601 Ox Rd. Lorton, VA
Description: Pandemonium Theatrical Productions with music by Matt Conner presents this dark musical exploration into the poetic genius of Edgar Allan Poe. This show continues through October 12.
Cost: $30 for general admission; $25 for students and seniors
