Spray Park and Treehouse at Lee District

Fairfax County plans to debut the Special Harbor Spray Park, a fully-accessible treehouse and family recreation area at Lee District Park in the summer of 2011. If you’ve been by Lee District lately, you probably noticed the large construction area near the entrance and wondered what was going on. This project overlooks trees and a stream valley and will feature sloping ramps that will allow easy access for wheelchair bound children and persons with limited mobility. Other highlights include a Spray Park, a specially-designed playground, an old fashioned carousel and a picnic area with covered shelters. There will also be changing rooms and restrooms to provide for a full day of fun. Much of the funding for this project was raised through the 2008 Park Bond, Lee District Land and Development Funds and donations to the Park Foundation. The Joey Pizzano Memorial Fund (a non-profit organization dedicated to improving the lives of children with special needs) has committed to building the Spray Park. The unique design of the park will encourage interaction between children of all abilities and their families. It will be a great addition to the Kingstowne area and the entire DC Metro area.
