There is still time to experience Northern Virginia’s only REAL Haunted House: Shocktober! Shocktober takes place at the Paxton Manor Campus in Leesburg every October, and a bunch of us have been going the past few years in a row. The organizers of this event are super creative and manage to out-do themselves each season. From the actors, set design, props, sound effects, makeup and more, everything is extremely well-crafted and perfectly executed. Each year Paxton Manor (the mansion) and the “Well of Souls” (basement) has a different theme, and as you walk through (in the dark—no flashlights allowed!) you are met with a variety of “scenes” throughout all the rooms. You never know who or what is lurking behind, in front, or to the side of you. Prepare to scream and be scared! I personally want to get through as soon as possible, but also want to make sure to look around because the sets are so amazingly put together (even though they might be scary or gross). This Friday, Saturday and Sunday are the LAST nights to take part in Shocktober and we highly recommend checking it out! It is definitely not for young (the website says PG-13), but teens and adults should come out and be scared silly. You can get tickets ahead of time here, doors open at 7; if you are buying a ticket at the gate, keep in mind that the last ticket is sold at 10:00 on Friday/Saturday and 9:00 on Sunday. Also, everyone who goes through needs to sign a waiver; you can print one out before you go, or grab one at the venue.
All proceeds from Shocktober benefit Paxton Campus, a Loudoun County non-profit that helps children and adults with disabilities.
