Great Arlington Event: Columbia Pike Blues Festival

When I first moved to Northern Virginia I rented a small home with a college buddy right up the road from Shirlington and immediately fell in love with the area. There were dog parks for Charlie (my boxer mutt), some great restaurants and it was just a quick drive or cab ride to DC or other Arlington hot spots.

Now that I live in the Kingstowne area I still head up to South Arlington for some of the great events they host. It’s only about a 15 minute drive from Kingstowne and about 15-25 minutes from most parts of Springfield and Lorton. In fact, tomorrow is the Columbia Pike Blues Festival where I’ll be spending a (hopefully) sunny afternoon listening to music, having a few beverages and enjoying time with friends. This free event is being held by the Columbia Pike Revitalization Organization and is scheduled from 1-8p. They actually block off the road near the intersection of Columbia Pike and Walter Reed so attendees can wander aimlessly through the streets, drinks in hand, while enjoying blues artists and visiting the vendors that setup shop.

If the blues festival is something you’d enjoy I would also suggest checking out the Village at Shirlington Jazz Series that starts July 1st and continues every Thursday evening through August. You can also check out other upcoming Shirlington area events on their website. It’s still a ways off but I also highly suggest going to Oktoberfest when it rolls around.

The easiest way to get to this event, whether you’re in Springfield, Alexandria or Lorton, is to hop on 395 north and take the Glebe Rd exit heading north. The first big intersection you’ll hit is Walter Reed where you take a right. The festival is right by the Arlington Cinema and Drafthouse.
