Fort Belvoir

Located in the southern part of Fairfax County, bordered by Alexandria and Lorton, Fort Belvoir dates back to World War I when it was established as Camp A. A. Humphreys. As a result of the 2005 BRAC, Fort Belvoir experienced significant growth over the next few years with over 22,000 new jobs. Right now it is home to 11 Army major commands, 19 agencies and units of the Department of Army, 8 elements of the Army Reserve and National Guard, 26 Department of Defense agencies and a handful of additional units and agencies.

CDPs surrounding the base include Kingstowne and Franconia to the northwest and Mount Vernon to the northeast. The influx of new military and civilian personnel makes buying a home in the areas surrounding the base a good investment as prices are expected to rise with the increase in demand.
