Update on TSA HQ in Springfield

New TSA HQ

We wanted to give everyone an update to our earlier blog post on the TSA’s move to Springfield. Construction has begun and we were able stop by and take a quick photo. We think that perhaps this structure might be a parking garage with the headquarters building still to be done, but we will of course update you along the way. You can actually see the building from the Fairfax County Parkway.

In other Springfield news,  “densification” (not a word you hear very often), is coming to the Springfield Town Center. The owners, after getting the mall portion up to 92.1% occupied, are ready to concentrate on securing partnerships to develop the 3 million square feet of mixed use space that is now taken up by endless parking lots. Between almost 2000 multifamily units, office space, hotel rooms and restaurants, the property will be totally transformed. With the new TSA headquarters nearby, easy access to Metro, and other positive news (like the opening of the St. James Sports Complex), the interest among possible partners will be strong.
