Society Fair in Old Town Alexandria is an absolute feast for the senses! Per their website, it is a “visual food circus; a restaurant, market, bakery and butchery, all under one enchanted roof.” Tom and I stopped in for a late lunch on Saturday and I was super impressed! This was my first time here, although Tom had gotten us carry-out sandwiches once before. Upon entering, you are met with a fabulous chandelier above the coffee/dessert area, and wandering through you’ll see displays of whimsical candies, freshly made bread, a specially curated wine selection, meat products, a sandwich station and refrigerated section with a great selection of to-go items such as sandwiches, pre-made dinner entrees, side dishes and more.
We were in a bit of a time crunch so we opted for a delicious pre-made cured ham and brie sandwich, with some sort of delectable confection for dessert (think combo Rice Krispies bar with layers of peanut butter and chocolate!). There is French-style bistro seating inside and out, including a separate room with sit-down service. We opted for a table in the market, and have to report that everything we ate was delicious! We picked up a couple of prepared entrees (beef bourguignon and chicken gumbo) and can’t wait to try them for dinner this week. Another unique feature of the Fair is the Demo Kitchen; every Friday at 7:30, experience a unique food and wine four-course dinner while interacting with the chef, fromagier and sommelier. Be sure to also consider Society Fair for all your catering and party needs.
