The Woods of Pohick/Whitlers Creek

Whitlers Creek, comprised of The Woods of Pohick and Whitlers Creek II, is a great 71 unit townhome community situated just off the Fairfax County Parkway in Springfield. Both garage and non-garage homes are available along Whitlers Creek Drive and Whitlers Creek Court, while Squirrel Run Court and Squirrel Run Road feature townhomes with one-car garages. The Mallard and Wood Duck models are available; construction took place from 1986 to 1989. Total square footage ranges from 2,244 to 2,409. Children attend Rolling Valley Elementary, Key Middle and Lee High Schools. Residents share the use of common grounds and walking paths. This location is popular with commuters because of its proximity to many transportation choices.

The Springfield Transportation Center, which houses Metro, VRE, Amtrak and Greyhound, is just a couple miles away; this provides convenient access to Alexandria, Arlington and Washington, D.C. There is a Park & Ride lot on Gambrill Road where riders can connect for carpooling or hop on a Fairfax Connector or Metro bus with service to the Metro. All of the region’s major roads, such as the Beltway and Interstates 395/95 and 66 are close by. This subdivision is a terrific locale for anyone stationed at Fort Belvoir, the Pentagon, the new campus of the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency, Bolling Air Force Base and more.

A variety of shopping and recreational activities can be found near Whitlers Creek. Old Keene Mill Center, situated at the intersection of Rolling and Old Keen Mill Roads, features a wide range of merchants including Whole Foods Market, the Austin Grill, Washington Sports Club, Starbucks, Bagel Bakery and Walgreen’s. Cardinal Plaza features a Giant and a 24-hour CVS with an attached MinuteClinic. Embassy Car Wash, several gas stations and banks are located close by. Pohick Stream Valley and West Springfield Village Parks offer lots of green and relaxing spaces. The newly renovated South Run Rec Center offers tons of ways to stay in shape. Highlights of the expanded 2-story fitness center include new strength training equipment, state of the art entertainment system with individual screens and video simulators on many cardio machines, spin bikes, a Pilates studio with reformer machines, and a wide array of class choices. Other favorites are the 25 x 25 meter swimming pool, sports courts, 24,000 square foot field house with synthetic turf, off-leash dog area, athletic fields and a multitude of walking trails that connect to Lake Mercer and Burke Lake Park.
