South Run Forest is a fantastic community of 327 single family homes with entrances off the Fairfax County Parkway and Hooes Road in Springfield. Several walking paths connect to the nearby Burke Lake Park and Lake Mercer.
Residents have several choices in determining how they get to work each day. The Fairfax County Parkway provides easy access to Route 29, Interstate 66, HOV lanes, the Beltway and Interstates 395/95. The nearest Slug Line is located at Sydenstricker and Hooes Road; this is an “instant” carpooling option with service to the Pentagon and Rosslyn in the morning. Afternoon slug lines servicing this stop include L’Enfant Plaza, 14th & Constitution and the Pentagon. The more traditional, organized form of carpooling is available at the Gambrill Road Park & Ride, as is service on Fairfax Connector or Metro buses to the Franconia-Springfield Metro station. VRE, Amtrak and Greyhound facilities are available at the Metro station as well.
South Run Forest is well located near major shopping malls and local shopping centers. If you are up for some serious shopping, you will want to check out Fair Oaks Mall, Tyson’s Corner Center and Tyson’s Galleria. All feature upscale shops/boutiques, department stores and many restaurants. Huntsman Square, situated just a few minutes down the Fairfax County Parkway, is a great resource. It has a Giant, Baskin Robbins, Starbucks, Subway and more. There are numerous shopping areas along Old Keene Mill and Rolling Roads; merchants include Whole Foods Market, Austin Grill, CVS, Washington Sports Club and Einstein Bagels. George Mason University’s Patriot Center and Center for the Arts offer a wide range of concerts, plays, recitals and dance programs. Fort Belvoir is only about 20 minutes away, providing an easy commute for residents. Other military bases in the vicinity include the Pentagon, 2 Coast Guard stations, Fort Myer and Bolling Air Force Base.
