Andrews is located just 10 miles from Washington DC and hosts over 20,000 active duty military, civilian employees and their family members. Overall, Andrews is home to more than 60 units and special missions. Air Force One also operates out of the base. Andrews is just a short drive across the Woodrow Wilson Bridge from Alexandria which makes our area a popular place to call home for many people working on the base.
The base was recently renamed in October 2009 to Joint Base Andrews Naval Air Facility Washington when Andrews Air Force Base and the Naval Air Facility merged under the 2005 round of BRAC. The 316 Wing became the commander of the new Joint Base. From its roots dating back to the Civil War, Andrews has grown and evolved into the installation that it is today.
