Joint Base Anacostia-Bolling

In 2005, as part of BRAC, the Naval Support Facility Anacostia combined with Bolling Air Force Base to become Joint Base Anacostia-Bolling (JBAB). JBAB is home to the 11th Wing – “the Chief’s Own” – and is situated on the East bank of the Potomac River in our nation’s capital. Under the leadership of the Air Force District of Washington and the command element for the U.S. Air Force Band and U.S. Air Force Honor Guard, it provides mission ready Airmen determined to provide superior customer service, precise ceremonial and musical operations worldwide. It also represents the Chief of Staff of the U.S. Air Force at events in support of Headquarters Air Force, the Joint Chiefs of Staff, the Office of the Secretary of Defense and the White House.

As the host wing for JBAB, the 11th Wing also provides superior base operating support to its assigned personnel, 19 tenant units and more than 48,000 Airmen and their families in the National Capital Region, plus 36 states and 95 countries worldwide. In addition, the 11th Wing organizes, trains and equips Airmen for Air and Space Expeditionary Force deployments when tasked, for military support of civil authorities when asked for contingency response operations when needed.

Some of the tenant units located at Bolling include the 579th Medical Group, Air Force Office of Special Investigations, U.S. Coast Guard, Defense Intelligence Agency and the Civil Air Patrol.

Easy access from Alexandria via the Woodrow Wilson Bridge makes buying a home in our area a popular choice for military personnel working on the base. The base itself is also home to a diverse military community housing families from all services.
