Episode 26 | Dine-n-Dash for Charity

Tonight, acclaimed chef and humanitarian, Jose Andres, redefines the term “dine n dash” and we’re gonna join him for a fundraiser for his World Central Kitchen.

We’re joining over 3200 supporters of World Central Kitchen at the Seventh Annual Dine n Dash Fundraiser. First, we’re headed to the starting point at DC’s National Union Building.

The three floors of this pop up space were devoted to educational displays and artifacts about World Central’s mission. Jose Andres founded it in 2010 after the horrible earthquake in Haiti. It’s developed into an amazing global network of chefs and volunteers dedicated to disaster relief and crafting smart solutions to hunger and poverty. The work they’re doing is truly impactful.

Of course, great appetizers and fun drinks by sponsor Tito’s Vodka were everywhere. There were even virtual reality 360° goggles so attendees could get the feel of being on the ground at the disaster zone. It was very cool.

So we just had a blast at the pre-party at the World Central Kitchen pop-up on F Street. Now we’re headed to some restaurants to enjoy some food and drinks.

We started at Jaleo, one of 36 participating restaurants. It was a huge party. Live music, drinks, and unlimited, awesome food. We realized it was gonna be a long night, so we had quick espressos from Pitango, and then went to Oyamel, and China Chilcano.

Then we took a quick ride up 14th Street to Michelin-Starred Bresca, for amazing duck slices, green tomatoes & burrata, along with specialty drinks.

Next it was on The Wharf, where we enjoyed jerk chicken wings and tasty eggplant creations at Kith and Kin. Then we went next door to Del Mar, where we had their famous seafood paella, carved spanish ham, and cold,refreshing cava.

The after-party was at Union Stage where there were more gourmet offerings and dessert from Jose Andres’ restaurant named Fish at the MGM Grand National Harbor. Live music kept the party going and there were thanks and some heartfelt words from Jose and World Central Kitchen’s Executive Director, Nate Mook.

You know it’s been a night of great food, amazing drinks, incredible restaurants around the city, but really, you know, we have to remember that it’s all going to support this incredible organization that Jose founded over nine years ago.

So it’s the end of the night and we couldn’t have had a better time. It was just a fabulous event.

And all for such a great cause. We were so happy to be able to support Jose Andres and his World Central Kitchen. We hope we’re already looking forward to next year.
