Fleetside is a lovely small knit community of 19 all brick townhomes on a tree-lined street in Alexandria, close to Franconia, Kingstowne and Springfield. These three-level homes were built in 1985 and have one-car garages and three bedrooms. This community is just a few lights away from the Springfield Mixing Bowl, offering access to Interstates 495, 395 and 95. The Fairfax County Parkway and the Springfield Transportation Center are very close as well. Stations for Metro’s blue line trains, VRE, Amtrak and Greyhound can be found at the transportation center off Frontier Drive. Local bus service (Fairfax Connector and Metro) is convenient too. The Franconia Professional Center is within walking distance-there are a variety of service providers such as doctors, dentists and insurance agents.
Living in Fleetside
There are a couple of other shopping/professional centers along Franconia Road; current tenants include Franconia Pizza, Strictly Rhythm Dance Studio, Matisse Day Spa and travel agencies. Residents of Fleetside will find it easy to go to the Kingstowne Town Center, with its 16-screen movie theater and mixture of shops and restaurants. Restaurants include popular lunch spots-Panera Bread, Noodles & Company, Firehouse Subs and sit down choices such as Bonefish Grill, Pasara and Macaroni Grill. Military and civilian personnel at the Pentagon, Fort Belvoir, Fort Myer and the U.S. Coast Guard station will have no trouble commuting to their jobs—its such a short distance to all of them. It is also easy to reach the Hoffman buildings, the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office or the offices at Metro Park.
