Metro Surge #8!

Metro Surge

The Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA) has been implementing their SafeTrack plan to improve Metro’s safety and reliability since the beginning of June this year. The plan extends hours during which maintenance takes place, and adds 15 Surges. The extended hours and Surges will allow WMATA to address about 3 years worth of repairs and maintenance in just several month’s time! Metro is planning to replace about 50,000 rail ties, over 85,000 feet of drains, plug hundreds of water leaks all in addition to fixing thousands of mechanical and electrical components.

The 8th Surge starts on Saturday August 27th, and will affect the Franconia-Springfield and Van Dorn Street Metro Stations. The Surge will last 16 days, and will end at closing on Sunday September 11th. To help mitigate crowds, Metro will provide shuttle buses between Franconia-Springfield and Pentagon during rush hours.

You’ll be able to find more information about SafeTrack’s 8th Surge here. You can also keep an eye on the upcoming Surges, and review their previous progress reports by clicking here.
