Fairfax County has put its hat in the ring to be the new site of the FBI Headquarters. This follows a Senate Committee on Environment and Public Works vote in December to allow the GSA to create a consolidated new space for the FBI HQ and several satellite offices. Under the guidelines, the new facility will need 2.1 million square feet on a site that is no larger than 55 acres, on federally owned property within close proximity to the Beltway and Metro. The Fairfax County Board of Supervisors thinks that the right place is right here in Springfield! The GSA owns a half empty warehouse right near the Franconia-Springfield Metro and 95/495. Officials believe that this will bring 12,000 jobs to the area and would be a big boost to our local economy. Easily accessible, this site wouldn’t have all the traffic problems of the new Mark Center in Alexandria.
