We eat and dish about Del Mar

Del Mar DC

We finally had a chance to try out Fabio and Maria Trabocchi’s Del Mar, the most recent addition to their impressive culinary empire. We love Fiola, and Fiola Mare, and still have to go to Casa Luca and Sfoglina.

Having closely followed the two billion dollar development at the hot District Wharf area, we knew that Del Mar was going to have an enviable location with a wall of windows out to the waterfront. The impressive menu paying homage to Maria’s Spanish heritage on the island of Mallorca is matched by the dazzling interior design and open kitchen.

As we often do, we sat at the curved bar at the entrance to the main dining room. Giorgio, and Marcos were outstanding amid a bustling Saturday night. Susan’s Nuez Rosada dark rum cocktail was a craft-work of art. We began our tasty journey with an appetizer platter of aged Manchego cheese served with Asturian chestnut honey, membrillo (a popular Spanish jelly made from the quince fruit) and anise crackers. A great combo-and fun to assemble-just what our late happy-hour was about!

For our main course we shared the Paella de Pescado y Mariscos. This classic Valencian dish was served barside and was loaded with Maine lobster, wild calamari, PEI mussels, and tiger prawns. It was totally delicious and can be ordered for 2-4 people (as we got—yay leftovers!) or for 4-6. As you can see by their menu, this restaurant is for special occasions and is a celebration of authentic seafood from the coast of Spain. We hope to find many special occasions to return to this super-appealing spot to sample the rest of the exciting fare. We may become regulars!
