Christmas Tree Project

Christmas Tree Project

The Washington Farm United Methodist Church, next to Mt. Vernon in Alexandria, has a long tradition of providing Christmas trees to the community. Started as a community project 47 years ago, it has grown to a point where there are families from throughout the metro area coming to the annual Christmas Tree Project to choose their trees. Some families are now bringing their grandchildren to select their first Christmas tree.

This year, the Christmas Tree lot began on Saturday, Nov 26. with the unloading of approximately 1,000 trees.  For the past three years, Rob Stanton, a Tom & Cindy real estate agent, has lead this community wide event.  As of  Monday, December 5th, only about a dozen trees were still available, along with about 23 wreathes. Suggested donations are $35-$40 for the trees, and $20 for the wreathes. The proceeds support the church’s many community programs.

Additionally, the church donates some trees throughout the community. Last year, over 40 trees were donated to service organizations, troops at Fort Belvoir and the hospital at Fort Belvoir.

Here is a photo of Rob Stanton donating trees to the 12th AVN BN at Fort Belvoir today.
