Alexandria VA: New Rental Community Because of BRAC

Prompted by the influx of workers under the Defense Department’s Base Realignment and Closure program (BRAC), Redbrick Development Group has announced plans for The Heights at Groveton, a mixed use community with 290 luxury apartments and 10,000 square feet of ground-level retail space. The $68 million dollar project will be located on the site of the former Groveton Elementary School in Alexandria, just south of Beacon Mall off Route 1. This community will be 65% one-bedroom units and 35% two-bedroom units, with some rents as high as $2,250/month. The Heights at Groveton will be a 5-mile “reverse commute” to Fort Belvoir and the new hospital being built there. This new hospital will absorb many of Walter Reed’s operations and will serve military service members, their families and retired personnel from all over the area. There will be shuttle bus service from this community to the Huntington Metro station. With its close proximity to Old Town Alexandria, DC and Fort Belvoir, the Heights at Groveton is a great choice for anyone commuting into these areas. Weather permitting, construction is set to begin in just a few weeks. Amenities will include a swimming pool, fitness center, community center, WiFi and a parking garage accessible from Route 1.
