Alexandria: Potential Closing of West End Market in Cameron Station

The City of Alexandria has requested that the West End Market—right in Cameron Station at Ben Brenman Park—become a separate non-profit entity in order to re-open in the spring. In order to do this, the market needs a Board of Directors (minimum of 5 people) to start the non-profit and run it. They need the following:

Pro bono lawyer: Create the non-profit and maintain legal status over the year

Pro bono accountant: Give 4-5 hours per month to maintain market finances

1-2 people for marketing, social media and community outreach

1-2 people to run the Market on Sundays

Some monetary compensation will be available. The market currently generates enough revenue to cover its marketing, maintenance and marketing needs, with a bit left over at the end of the year.

If you don’t want to lose your neighborhood market (with all the goodies it provides) and can help, please contact the current manager Susan Birchler at [email protected] as soon as possible!
