Medford Leas is a tree-lined community of 99 single-family homes constructed during the early 1980s in Springfield. Many people love this neighborhood because numerous homes back to parkland and have lot sizes of .19 to .46 acres, providing much desired privacy. Mainly colonial and split-level homes are available in this community; model names include the Shannon, Bromley, Wynfield, Buckstone, Garrison and Amberly. It is located just off the Fairfax County Parkway, which provides easy access to I-95/395 HOV lanes, Interstate 66, Route 29, the Beltway and the Springfield Transportation Center. The Transportation Center provides access to Metro’s blue line, VRE and Amtrak trains and Greyhound buses. There is a Park & Ride stop on Gambrill Road; commuters can easily catch a bus to the Metro or connect with a carpool. Another option is the slug line stop at the intersection of Sydenstricker and Hooes Rd. Morning slug lines go to the Pentagon and Rosslyn; returning slug lines include the Pentagon, L’Enfant Plaza and 14th & Constitution.
Burke Lake Park and South Run RECenter both consist of an assortment of recreational/leisure activities, no matter what your interests. There is a 218-acre lake with boating and fishing facilities, outdoor volleyball courts, open fields, 18-hole and miniature golf courses, ice cream parlor, horseshoe pits and more at Burke Lake. South Run RECenter has recently undergone a complete overhaul. The fitness center has been expanded to 2 stories and features new free weights and cable equipment for strength training, a state of the art entertainment system with individual screens or video simulators on many cardio machines, spin bikes and yoga/dance studios.
