Alexandria Schools

The Alexandria school system has over 72,000 students attending a total of 152 schools. The public school system is comprised of 23 different districts and average annual expenditures are over $8,000 per student with a phenomenal student to teacher ratio of 12 to 1. Student body size varies but the average high school serves 882 students while middle and elementary schools serve 560 and 387 students, respectively. Springfield Schools

Fairfax County currently operates 23 schools within Springfield and there are 29 additional private schools. All told, there are over 6,000 students currently enrolled in pre-school through 12th grade. The county spends around $7,500 annually per student, well above the national average. Lorton Schools

The southern edge of Fairfax County is home to Lorton, a city with about 20,000 residents. There are nearly 4,500 students currently enrolled in Lorton schools and they are served by over 300 teachers which averages out to a ratio around 14 to 1. Fairfax County spends approximately $8,000 per student on a yearly basis. A few years ago, South County Secondary opened its doors as a brand new facility aimed to accommodate the growing student population.
