Alexandria 9/11 Heroes Run

Alexandria 9/11 Heroes Run

Here are some photos from last year’s race.

Tomorrow will mark the start of the third annual Alexandria 9/11 Heroes Run, organized by the Travis Manion Foundation. Our team is proud to once again support this wonderful group, and invite you all to do the same. The 9/11 Heroes Run “unites communities internationally with the goal to never forget the sacrifices of the heroes of September 11th and the wars since: veteran, first responder, civilian and military.” Events take place all over the world and are organized by local volunteers.

WHAT: 9/11 Heroes 5K Race and half-mile fun run/walk
WHEN: September 9th at 9:00 AM
WHERE: Carl Sandburg Middle School, 8428 Fort Hunt Road, Alexandria, VA 22308
HOW: Sign up here

Travis Manion lived in the Mount Vernon area of Alexandria until age 10, when his family moved to Pennsylvania. As a 1st Lt. in the US Marine Corps, Travis deployed for a 2nd tour of duty in Iraq where he was killed by enemy fire while leading a counterattack against insurgents, and saving his wounded comrades.

Travis’ final words before deploying were “If Not Me, Then Who…”, and the TMF strives to maintain his legacy while encouraging others to “live with character and make an impact by serving others.” It aims to support veterans, first responders and their survivors, all while trying to strengthen communities. Whether it is organizing transition workshops for veterans, or supporting local youth, the Travis Manion Foundation is making a difference.

You can monitor all events on social media by using the hashtag #911HeroesRun or you can follow along with the Alexandria 9/11 Heroes Run on Facebook, Twitter or Instagram. Four of our team members will be participating, and we would love to have you join us! This year, there will also be a “Fill the Boot” campaign for Hurricane Harvey relief efforts.

If we can help with any of your real estate goals, give us a call at 703-822-0207 or e-mail TomandCindy@HelloVirginia.com anytime! We would be happy to help.
